Andrew Thomas Dickieson

My father has been a photographer my whole life but what I always remembered was looking over my shoulder as a child and having a video camera pointed at me. My father made it a point to always capture the mundane, the common and the ordinary. I never made a concious decision to specifically follow in his footsteps, but one day I picked up that same camera and pointed it at my friends. What I found was a world of wonder in that eye piece. Everything seemed extraordinary.

My mother was a teacher, but always found it hard to get me interested in school. She was, however, able to see what my interests were and point me in directions that I would have missed on my own. Becuase of her, I found my first job working as a videographer and editor at our church and from there she took me to Chicago to show me the school that I would later attend. At that time in my life, I wasn't doing too much seeking but was happy to let things happen to me.

Being on my own in Chicago forced me to grow up and actually start to look at the world around me to understand how it works. Film school next took me to Los Angeles, where I've have worked as a Camera Assistant for the last 15 years. In 2015, my wife and I had our first child. That Christmas we bought our first family camera to capture the life happening inside the walls of our home. It wasn't long after that I started taking that camera outside. Walking the streets of Los Angeles opened my eyes, not
to the glitz and glamor, not to the beautiful or over the top, but to the continuation of the life I was seeing inside. I finally was seeing what my Father was looking at all those years before.

Thru that lens I have found Hope in the ordinary, Truth thru the common and Holiness thru the mundane. That is where life happens, and that's what I wish to share with you. Photography allows us to freeze time and relive that moment forever. Portrait Photography can connect you with somebody across the world or across time. Photojournalism gives us insights to the human condition.
open your eyes with me and let me help you tell your story.
